Curvy Girls

Something I noticed today on facebook is that there are a shitload of pages and groups dedicated to saying that curvy girls are better than skinny girls. And you see this more and more in celebrity culture, embracing their curves, this what is 'real' women look like. Now, yes, real women aren't skinny. I get that. BUT why oh FUCKING WHY is curvy all of a sudden a euphemism for fat. If you look at those sites, they are saying size 16's are okay. Dudes, unless you are like 6 foot, which lets face it - most women are not, then a 16 is overweight. So let's consider this right. Okay, so no one likes a skeleton sure. But saying it is okay to be overweight - are you fucking kidding me. Let's look at the health risks, apart from all the disease risk factors that are increased from being even slightly overweight, there is the strain on your body, the clear lack of concern for the food you are shoving in your pie hole, tendencies to overeat and the obvious one - no size 16 exercises regularly. Come now. The possibility that 'curvy' women actually have the correct eating and workout schedules is in fact very low. I'm so sick of current media telling people that skinny is wrong, meanwhile, flip through the pages of every magazine and the person telling you skinny is wrong is also fucking skinny. Come on. Talk about schizophrenic media. No wonder everyone is so fucked up.

Anyway, that aside. Yesterday turned into a slight eating day which ended around 2000 calories, which I suppose is better than 5000 but still. It was meant to be around 500. Anyway, not to worry. To mitigate that today is going to a 500-er. I have had two cups of coffee so far (seem to have gone off the honey part) and then am going to have two plums later and tomato and basil soup. All in all it should come to around 400. Then tomorrow I have big plans to learn how to make a Vietnamese salad. I watch a lot of masterchef australia and I LOVE it and in season 3 there is this kickass girl called Dani and her vibe is Vietnamese and all the food looks so epic. So I think I may do that with turkey, cuz it's so low in calories. I mean really. It's like fish. Cray Cray.

Totally on the same page with you about "curvy" people. I'm of the opinion that it would be better for people to stop hating themselves for being overweight but feeling proud of being overweight is too far in the opposite direction. Attitudes like either of those don't encourage people to be healthy.

Despite me having major body issues, I find myself constantly judging overweight people. I hate that part of me. But I agree. Overweight people don't care about their exercise routine or what kind of food they put in their mouth. Your intake sounds wonderful and so does that salad. Stay strong and beautiful.

I hate seeing magazines talking about people "embracing their curves" - not only does it make people think it's okay and healthy to be overweight, but sometimes I see the articles and they make me wonder why I am trying to lose weight when nobody will notice anyway, if they're all appreciating fat people?

disagree.
whilst i see your point is valid, some people actually can't help but be overweight. im talking about metabolic disorders. some people really can't exercise, wheel-chair bound, etc. also, a person that is eating an adequate diet but too much food can easily be as overweight. carrots can make you fat.
plus, i have a fat fetish myself. so i can't really complain about the embracing your curves part. some people just choose their love over food over their body. it doesn't mean anything. plus, that girl can be a size 16 but wear a size 12 top. it's completely possible that all of her fat is centered around her hips.
i hate how 'curvy' however is another 'nice' way of saying fat. fat is corpulence. 'curvy' refers to hourglass figures, pear-shaped figures, etc. not people who obviously have no structure.
it's true though. some people might not even realise they're eating out of the normal. a lot of them are in denial/just care about food. actually, a lot of overweight people i know eat very good diets - TOO good of diets. portion control is a problem for them. i'm not defending fat people but i do know that there are exceptions. especially since i've had PCOS and do have HS (gets worse with exercise/sweating), so i know that it's completely possible for your body's disposition to be linked to your genes. also, people that are depressed also can gain weight. that's really common. some lose it, others overeat. as stress.
also, you can't blame the kid that was brought up with obese parents that feed him healthily either. i never believe that anything is good or bad. it has its good effects and bad ones.
plus, you used 'overweight', i'm thinking chubby not obese - so yeah, it can be okay to be overweight depending on why you're overweight and your diets. and etc. so i can't really look at your size and decide that. plus, a person that is effortlessly skinny but eats junk food all the time is much less healthy than a person that is overweight but eats too much of good things (unfortunately, this is rarely the case but it does happen.) i'm just mentioning exceptions and wow this is really long

PS. that or i just want everyone fatter than me. that helps too.

also, when i said carrots can make you fat, i mean eating 3000kcal of carrots.
i dont know how you can manage to do that but there's that crazy fruitarian that eats 50 bananas a day so.

I think curvy used to be based on the 'hourglass' figure, with everything being in proportion but wider than 'skinny'

Now I see a lot of fat women who are fine with their shape as they have 'curves to die for'. . . more like 'curves to die from' In a way it's a new excuse to hide behind, like Lady Gaga piling on her pounds saying "she loves her curves, and he boyfriend does and she's showing young girls that they should love their bodies" - no one loves the fact gaga has put on pounds and seems to wear less than did before. And now with size ranges being changed (size 14 being UK average) people think "Oh im overweight as a size 14 - but its the average so it's fine"

I've always said this: curvy is shape, not size. If you have the right shape you can be curvy AND skinny just as you can be curvy AND overweight. But if you don't have shape and are overweight, then sorry, you're just plain fat. Don't try to dress it up as curvy. Curvy is hourglass, not rolls outwards just as a square waist with narrow hips and small boobs isn't.

I hate it when definitions get distorted, can you tell?! Makes me angry. Love xx

I agree with what Sam said, curvy means "hourglass". Oddly enough people think curvy = fat now a days.

Just like the "Maryline Monroe wore a size 14" thing a girl kept telling me, first off Maryline was a 12 back in the day, which is somewhere between a 6-8 today.

I am all for the HEALTHY curvy girls loving their J.Lo booties... But if you are a size 22, you are not curvy. And dont try blaming it on your genes (this is where I disagree with Sam) Yes, you might have "the fat gene" (though proven true in only in under 10% of obecity cases) trying to stop you from losing BUT...

A good friend of my bf's was bordering 500lbs and he got a handdle on himself, 2yrs later he's lost over 250lbs. He works out everyday and eats clean.

all this ramble to say, I still agree with you Piggy.

Fatties need to stop saying they are curvy when they are lumpy...

AMEN SISTER!!!!!!!!
COULDN'T FUCKING AGREE WITH YOU MORE!!!!!
Also, all due respect to Sammy, who you all know I LOVE, that's just bullshit. Sure, there are metabolic disorders that PREDISPOSE you to being fat, but at the end of the day, it's all intake vs. output. There are only 3 disorders in the whole world that I think will totally excuse you from being fat: Angelman's, Prader-Willi and leptin deficiency.
Let's get this straight. Some of the thinnest people I know have PCOS, and NOBODY can blame being fat on having a LOW metabolism because metabolic rate is directly proportional to weight so the more you weigh, the HIGHER your metabolism. Exercise only changes your metabolic rate by a small amount so all that shit about HAVING A LOW METABOLISM IS JUST BULLSHIT.
Fat people use it as such an excuse for being fat. "Oh I have a low metabolism because everyone in my family has a low metabolism." Bullshit. The reason your whole family is fat is because you all eat the same shit.
I do think that overeating is a behavioural issue, and that is is taught by observing other people's behaviour or is developed as a coping mechanism and you can't really blame people too much for that. However, it is their choice whether or not to continue their pattern, or to make a change.

Anyway, if women have a natural hourglass, curvy figure, great. If they are fat, then fuck, their fat. And if they don't face it then I will happily see them in hospital after their heart attack or stroke at 45 years of age, or when they are 50 and their knees are worn out because of the massive strain on them. And you know what, then they will have to face a lifetime of medication, and then they will have to face themselves.

What goes around comes around sister. And if people choose not to do something about their weight today, then they can face the consequences of that decision later.

your comment on my blog suddenly made me remember something. I have a friend, a fellow skinny-phile like me, and is slightly smaller than me in size. She watched a documentary about a year and a half ago about "embracing your curves and loving yourself", when she was about 10kg heavier (she lost all the weight after a bad break-up), and said that even though she had been trying to lose weight and loved the skinny look, it had inspired her to want to put on more weight.
This "documentary" had actually glamourized the size 16-22 look as something that was widely desired by men and loved by society. I was disgusted. Since when did promoting self-esteem become loving fatness? Sure, love who you are, but seriously, recognise fat does not equal sexy, and does not equal health.

Feel free to point out how Monroe's stomach did not hang over her pants ^_^
How her belly did not stick out farther than her boobs. How her waist was not wider than her hips.
There are ways of using the fatties' "logic"d to point out how wrong they are ^_^
